Daniel Craig admits that he originally thought his audition for James Bond was a joke, and that if he was lucky he would land a random villain role.

No Time to Die star Daniel Craig said that when he originally auditioned for James Bond, he thought it was a joke. No Time to Die, which is Craig’s fifth and final entry as the British superspy, is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. The movie will follow Craig’s Bond being pulled back into action in a plot that will tie together the events of all his films. Releasing in theaters in October, No Time to Die stars Craig, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Jeffrey Wright.

Craig first stepped into Bond’s shoes in the 2006 film Casino Royale. The actor had been working since the early 1990’s, even appearing in episodes of television shows like The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and Tales from the Crypt. Although he started to appear in bigger projects like Elizabeth and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider by the early 2000s, Craig’s biggest pre-Bond project was the Matthew Vaughn action film Layer Cake.
