Guardians of the Galaxy Comics Lets Rocket Grow in Ways the MCU Won't

While the Rocket Raccoon of the MCU may have a hard time getting along with his fellow Guardians, the comics have allowed him to grow and evolve.

Recent issues of Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel Comics have allowed Rocket Raccoon to grow and evolve, straying from his depiction in the MCU. During The Last Annihilation, Rocket has stepped up as a major player and hero, and Nathan Summers’ Cable even confirms that Rocket’s legacy in the future is that of a legend that’s inspired many (including Cable himself). However, the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy films feature Rocket struggling to get along with his teammates, such as when he’s arguing with Peter Quill about who the best pilot is (to the whole team’s detriment).

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Rocket is still a rather large jerk to his fellow teammates despite the growth the Guardians had in their first adventure. Essentially, his self-centered attitude continued to win out for the majority of the film, such as when he stole rare Anulax batteries from the Sovereign people, landing the Guardians in all kinds of trouble. He made things even worse he started arguing with Star-Lord about who should be flying their ship to get them out of danger, resulting in the Milano crash-landing.
