Marvel Comics just acknowledge the existence of the Inhumans and their place in the Marvel Universe for what feels like the first time in forever.
Warning! Spoilers for Darkhold: Alpha #1 by Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics just revealed the fate of the Inhumans after the race of heroes hasn’t been seen in far too long. In Darkhold: Alpha #1, Black Bolt is chosen among the team Scarlet Witch assembles to stop the elder god Chthon from destroying the Marvel Universe. Once he arrives, the King of the Inhuman Royal Family reveals his race is still very much alive and has recently begun a journey to fortify their future after nearly being killed entirely.
The Inhumans are one of Marvel’s classic superteams, originally debuting back in 1961, appearing a couple of years after the X-Men. Inhumans are born with the Inhuman gene, which grants them powers once they enter the process of Terrigenesis. The race often secludes themselves in their own society, ruled by the Royal Family. Since then, they’ve played a notable role in the Marvel Universe, especially when Marvel Comics decided to sideline the X-Men due to rights issues, propelling them to the forefront of the comics. However, once Marvel reacquired the full rights to the X-Men, the Inhumans were sidelined following a commercial and critically panned live-action series. The show pushed the Inhumans to the side in the comics, as Marvel clearly didn’t believe in the property – as many of the heroes died in the Death of the Inhumans arc.
