Rick & Morty season 5 ended recently, but a new Halloween short is on the way. A release date has been revealed for the special episode.
A tentative release date has been projected for an upcoming Rick and Morty Halloween short, which is set to air this October on Adult Swim. The mind-bending sci-fi animated comedy from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland concluded its fifth season earlier this month with a two-part finale that aired after a month-long mid-season break. After expanding its absurd multiverse to unsustainably crazy dimensions, Rick and Morty season 5 downsized the world of the show in a way that future seasons will have to adjust to.
Throughout five seasons of Rick and Morty, Adult Swim has released a variety of side programming to meet fan demand for related content. The show has come out with webisodes, animatics, and recently, a series of well-received anime short films that aired on Toonami. Third-party sources uncovered this week that another short film appears to be on the way: “The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara” is a horror short that will serve as a Halloween special. Adult Swim has remained tight-lipped about the special, but lineups from Toonami and Adult Swim Canada have given fans clues about the upcoming episode. A synopsis for the episode reads: “Rick plans to build the ultimate AI toaster; Things take a strange turn when he and Morty are forced to travel to Akihabara for spare parts.”
