Scarecrow's Titans Endgame Is Dark Knight's Joker Meets TDKR's Bane

Scarecrow’s endgame is coming into view in Titans season 3, and the his plot has elements of Joker in The Dark Knight, and Bane in Dark Knight Rises.

Scarecrow’s Titans season 3 plan blends elements of Joker’s scheme in The Dark Knight and Bane’s endgame in The Dark Knight Rises. Though many fans expected Blackfire or Red Hood to shoulder main villain responsibilities, Scarecrow has been the real overarching antagonist of Titans season 3. When a resentful Jason Todd first approached Jonathan Crane in Arkham Asylum, the Scarecrow spotted an opportunity and provoked the youngster into breaking him free. Unleashed on the streets of Gotham once more, Scarecrow set about enacting his masterplan – undermine the Titans, present a brand new savior in Red Hood, and subjugate the population with anti-fear gas that gives the user an addictive feeling of immortality.

Since premiering back in August, Titans season 3 has made plenty of great DC homages to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Nightwing’s interrogation scene with Red Hood’s bank victim took ample inspiration from Batman and Joker’s iconic The Dark Knight confrontation. Scarecrow tampering with Gotham’s water supply came directly from Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins (though Batman: The Animated Series did it beforehand). And Barbara Gordon’s Oracle program is a mixture of Marvel’s JARVIS and the sonar software Bruce Wayne uses to track Heath Ledger’s Joker.
