The details of the latest WhatsApp beta on iOS were originally picked up by WABetaInfo after the release of beta version 126.96.36.199. According to 9To5Mac, the beta introduces the quality settings that WhatsApp previously started testing on Android in early July.
The new setting, which allows users to change between Auto, Best Quality, and Data Saver, will give users more control over how the app compresses any photos or media that they send. WABetaInfo notes that while the setting offers “Best Quality” it doesn’t appear to send the photo in its original quality. Instead, it will use a lighter compression rate. This should lead to the final image being around 80 percent of the original quality, and images larger than 2048 x 2048 may be resized.
